Leash Training?
Mood:  mischievious

Terry sent these cute photos... she was letting Scout wear a lead around her neck and practicing "comes" in the house. What she didn't count on was the "kitty hazard".

A new experience
Mood:  celebratory

This past weekend, I took Guy to a UKC show over in MS. Having never been to one of their shows, I wasn't up on what to expect, but it turned out to be a positive experience for Guy. He had a blast, was a happy puppy, squirmed all over when the judge came up to him..... "Let me lick'um and get petted all over!" So excited that someone wanted to touch him.Laughing

Anyway, we got lots of ring time as there were two shows a day. By Sunday, Guy had going around the ring down pat... standing on his own - okay, but still being a squirmy, happy puppy on the judge's examination.

Got a boat load of rosettes though! Turns out that you need 100 points to be a UKC Champion, 3 of those wins must be with competition. Surprise! Guy got 100 points and 2 competition wins by virtue of beating the Afghan in the Sighthound Group. So, we only need one more competition win to compete the requirements. Surprised

Update from the fur kids
Mood:  happy
I just had to share this quick post from one of my puppy folks. Cute photos, too!

Hey Sandra. I have been meaning to write and let you know how Lulu was doing. I'm sending some pics, one of just lulu, one with both the boys with lulu, and one of Lulu with one of her friends. Last night. The boys were playing with her outside, and we were sitting on the back porch and my littlest, Jackson, and Lulu apparently got a little tired, so they both came and laid on the floor of the back porch together. I of course ran for my camera because it was so cute with my 2 babies all snuggled up on the concrete floor, but they were up and going again before I got back.

She is doing great, and everyone loves her. Scott takes her down to the pier sometimes at night and she hangs out with him while he fishes. She goes outside with the boys when they are playing on the swingset, and climbs up the rock wall  to get in the fort with them. It is so funny. She mostly comes back down the rock wall, but once went down the slide. I'm not sure if she liked that too much, so I don't know if she'll do it again.

She has gone swimming with us some in the pool. I think she really liked it because if we are out there in the pool she will ease in on the steps all by herself.

She has made friends with some of the dogs in the neighborhood, and loves our next door neighbors dog Macky. He'll come over and they will race around playing and wrestling until they can't stand it anymore and collapse.

We took her up to my sister's camp in Carthage and she LOVED that. She ran with the 4-wheelers and splashed into the lakes. There was so much for her to explore. She's such a sweet dog and we just love her so much. I can't thank you enough for her. Well, I just wanted to give you an update, since i haven't done that in awhile. I hope you and the dogs are doing well. Talk to you soon.

A day at the beach
Mood:  happy

Ah, to be a Ridgeback with owners who love to have fun with them! I just got these photos from Liz Druitt and the recent adventure of her two RRs - Henna Moon and Jad and Terry Matthews and her two - Major and Scout at the beach in Galveston, TX.

Scout and Major having a splashing good time.

Having a blast at the beach. Bet those pelicans crusing behind the dogs were entertained.

Major taking a break from all the fun.Cool

Scout working off some of that endless puppy energy.

Jade finds a treasure under the water. Scout's paying close attention (or is wondering what the heck Jade is doing with her nose underwater!)

Off for another thundering run!

A group pose at the walkway - almost a perfect pose... of course, puppy looks like she couldn't resist a "chat". Can't you just imagine her saying "We had a great fun, didn't we?" Laughing

conspiracy
Mood:  happy

I have a persimmon tree that has a type of fruit that isn't sour when it's green. In fact, it tastes kinda like a apple. Savannah loves them, but she's 10 now and not as agile as she once was, but now she has a helper - Guy.

He watched her jump up and try to get a persimmon, so he did it, too. He likes pears, but doen't like the persimmons.... still likes to jump up and grab one though. Now, when Savannah wants one, she trots over to the tree, looks up, looks around and somehow summons Guy over there. He jumps up, nabs one, drops it and she gets it.

Guy jumping to get a persimmon.

Now Savannah gets to enjoy eating it.

Diva says, no thanks, I'll get my own!

The Gift Giver
Mood:  mischievious

Guy, the new pup, loves to carry things around in his mouth. As soon as I come back from running errands, he has to grab up a toy/bone/something to bring it to me.... sorta like a welcome home gift.Embarassed

Lately, this gift giving has extended to night time, too. Whenever another dog goes out during the night, Guy goes with them. When they come back in, he has to grab something and "present" it to me... never mind that I'm asleep!

I often wake up to find several toys and bones in the bed that he has brought during the night. Occasionally, there's something icky, too - like last night when I touched something wet and sticky right next to my face. Eeuwww! It was a green persimmon. Could'da been worst, I guess.Wink

Case of the Disappearing laundry
Mood:  quizzical

I was going to wash a couple of loads of clothes today... I tried to get all the colored pants and shirts in one load, but it was just too many, so I dropped some out on the utility room floor to wait their turn.

Finally, I hear the machine stop and went and put those into the dryer. Then I started adding the clothes on the floor to the washer. Hmmmm, why did I leave out only 3 items? I could have sworn there was enough out for a full load.Undecided

Guy! Went and looked out the back door and there was the missing shirts and pants dotting the backyard, so out I went to collect them.

Seems like Guy ( the 6 month old pup) loves to carry things around in his mouth.... mostly his soft toys, but he also has an affinity for my clothes. Why he feels the need to take them outside through the dog door, I'll never know.

I have a vision of him taking a pair of pants into the yard, dropping them and saying "Be free, be free!". Laughing

Recovery from Houston

On the weekend of 20-21st of July, I had Darla entered in the Houston shows. I really hate those shows! It's soooooo hot and the venue is not exhibitor friendly... you have to pay for crating space and if you aren't there early, you have to park in Timbuktu and hike to the entrance in the stifling heat and wind up looking like a dead daisy.

But, that's the only place around to find majors in RRs, so I went. I did manage some fun out of it though.. I first went down towards Galveston to Terry and Mark Matthews home to spend the first night and take them their new puppy - Scout.. the Border Collie in a Ridgeback body. Oh, they are gonna have fun with her... bet she's gonna be a great agility dog with all that drive and energy.

Terry is currently fostering some kittens and Scout had never met a cat... boy, she was facinated and provided us with tons of laughs.

Friday was the first show... Darla wasn't thrilled to be there... probably bad memories of being out with a handler who tried to starve a win into her... ( a long and mean story). I think the judge liked her, she just wouldn't happy up.

Saturday, Darla won... one major out of the way. A whole crowd of well wishers were there and afterwards we hiked all over the shopping venue that is a big part of the shows there.. kinda the shopping mecca for dog folks. Sure was glad to get back to Liz's and put my feet up and rest.

Sunday wasn't Darla's day either.... the judge liked longer bodied dogs.. that's okay, at least we got one major under our belt... now one to go.

Picked up Guy, who has been at Glen's in Houma, on the way back... He has turned into quite a handsome pup. Here he is the day after his 6 month birthday... He's still learning about stacking and showing, so standing somewhat still is a good thing!

Kitty Sitter
Mood:  hug me
Who said Ridgebacks and cats don't get along? Terry, is fostering some kitties and her RR, Major, is so good natured that he doesn't mind sharing the couch with them.

Of course, Major was raised around cats and knows not to harm them... unlike his mother, Diva, who thinks cats are prey.
